A Book Tower wedding truly feels like stepping into one of Detroit’s most beautiful historic spaces, while still having the ease and polish of a modern wedding venue. Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, Book Tower is elegant and full of character. It has the kind of presence that makes a wedding day feel elevated from the moment guests walk through the doors.

For couples who want a Detroit wedding venue with history, beautiful interiors, and everything in one location, Book Tower is definitely a venue to consider. The building has multiple spaces for getting ready, portraits, ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. That means your day can be relaxed yet intentional without needing to travel across the city.

As a Detroit wedding photographer, I love venues that allow couples to be present with their people. Book Tower does that so well. It gives you variety, beauty, and a full city wedding experience, all inside one historic building.

BOOK TOWER Wedding Venues & Spaces

One of the best parts about having a Book Tower wedding is the way the building flows. You can host nearly every part of the day in one location, while still giving each part of the day its own atmosphere.

THE TERRACE ROOM | getting ready space

The Terrace Room is a beautiful getting-ready option at Book Tower. For Alaina and Jacob’s wedding, the girls got ready in the Terrace Room while the boys got ready in a hotel room at ROOST Detroit.

Having getting-ready spaces inside the building keeps the beginning of the day calm and simple. There is no extra transportation, no need to move between multiple hotels, and no rushed timeline trying to get everyone in the right place.

ROOST DETROIT | HOTEL ROOMS AND GUEST ACCOMMODATIONS

While ROOST Detroit isn’t automatically part of every Book Tower wedding, it’s located inside the building and may be available as a room block option depending on availability. Couples can inquire about reserving a wedding room block of 10 rooms or more through ROOST.

This can make the wedding weekend feel easy for couples and guests, especially for those traveling from out of town. It also keeps everyone close to the ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, restaurants, and downtown Detroit portrait locations.

For wedding photos, ROOST Detroit can also be a great getting-ready option. For this Book Tower wedding, the groom got ready in a hotel room, which kept the morning easy and allowed the full day to stay in one location.

THE GREEN ROOM | private couple suite

The Green Room is a great space for couples before and/or after the ceremony. It can be used as a place to relax, sign the marriage license, or take a little moment together before entering the next part of the day.

For Alaina and Jacob, the Green Room was used after the ceremony for their license signing, a private toast, and immediate cheers from their bridal party. I love when wedding days include small moments like this. They usually become some of the most meaningful parts of the gallery.

THE LINDEN ROOM | Ceremony or cocktail hour space

1,440 sq. ft. | Seated Ceremony: 140 | Cocktail Reception: 130

The Linden Room is usually used for wedding ceremonies at Book Tower. It’s a beautiful option for couples who want an indoor ceremony that still feels intimate and connected to the rest of the venue.

For Alaina and Jacob’s Book Tower wedding, their ceremony took place in the Linden Room. It allowed guests to stay inside the building and move naturally into cocktail hour and the reception afterward.

From a photographer’s perspective, a smaller guest count works better in the Linden Room ceremony space. Typically, the chairs go right up against the walls, limiting spaces to walk and capture photos. With a smaller guest count, mobility and variety of photos increases.

The Linden Room can also be used for cocktail hour, smaller gatherings, or additional event space depending on the layout of the day.

THE LOBBY AND BAR ROTUNDA | cOCKTAIL hOUR & pORTRAITS

The lobby and Bar Rotunda are beautiful options for cocktail hour and portraits. The glass dome inside the lobby is such a beautiful part of Book Tower. It gives the building so much character.

One thing couples should know is that the lobby is open to the public during weddings. This does not take away from the beauty of the space, but it is helpful to know when planning portraits and movement throughout the day.

KAMPER’S ROOFTOP | COCKTAIL HOUR ADD-ON

Kamper’s Rooftop is located on the 14th floor of Book Tower and offers skyline views, Basque-inspired tapas, pintxos, wine, and cocktails in a Barcelona-inspired setting.

According to the wedding brochure, Kamper’s Rooftop may be available for cocktail hour for an additional $1,000. This can be a great option for couples who want to add a rooftop experience to their Book Tower wedding without leaving the building.

THE CONSERVATORY BALLROOM | reception space

2700 sq. ft. | Seated with Dance Floor: 175 | Strolling: 275

The Conservatory Ballroom is one of the most beautiful reception spaces at Book Tower. It’s located on the 13th floor, and it’s bright and full of texture. It has limestone floors, wood paneling, warm plaster, lemon trees, and a glass skylight above the room.

For wedding receptions, the Conservatory feels elegant without needing much added to it. It already has such strong design. During the day, the natural light is perfect. After the sun sets, the room takes on a more high-fashion, editorial feeling.

This is one of my favorite things about photographing wedding receptions here. The space looks beautiful all day, but it completely transforms at night.

WHY COUPLES LOVE HAVING A BOOK TOWER WEDDING

Book Tower is such a great wedding venue because it gives couples the beauty of a historic Detroit setting and the ease of an all-in-one wedding day.

Everything can happen in one building. Getting ready, portraits, ceremony, cocktail hour, reception, and guest accommodations can all be connected. This helps the day feel more relaxed and flow smoothly. It also allows couples to spend more time with the people who came to celebrate them.

Instead of building the timeline around transportation, parking, traffic, and moving groups of people across the city, couples can stay present. There is more room to breathe and for candid moments, and more time to actually enjoy the day.

Book Tower also gives you so much variety for photos. The Conservatory Ballroom, Linden Room, Terrace Room, Green Room, stairwells, elevators, lobby, Bar Rotunda, and exterior city spaces all bring something different to the gallery, which makes your gallery feel so full and complete.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHING WEDDINGS AT BOOK TOWER

As a Detroit wedding photographer, I love photographing weddings at Book Tower because the whole day can unfold in one location without feeling repetitive. Every space has its own personality, which gives the final gallery so much depth.

The Conservatory Ballroom has beautiful natural light throughout the day. It feels clean and even, which is ideal for reception details, portraits, and candid guest moments. Once the sun goes down, the room becomes moodier and more editorial. It has a completely different energy at night.

I also appreciate how cared for the day feels at Book Tower. With Anthology Events staff present throughout the event, everything felt prepared and thoughtfully managed. That kind of care matters. It allows couples, families, and vendors to move through the day with more ease.

Book Tower also gives couples the option for downtown Detroit portraits without leaving the venue. You can step outside the main doors and have city backdrops immediately. For couples who want a wedding gallery that feels elegant, editorial, and connected to Detroit, this venue offers so much.

REAL BOOK TOWER WEDDING INSPIRATION: ALAINA AND JACOB

Alaina and Jacob’s Book Tower wedding was colorful, elegant, relaxed, so meaningful. Their day had a beautiful Italian-Renaissance feeling, but it never felt overly formal. It was chic and people-focused, with so many personal details woven in.

We started the day with details while Alaina was getting her makeup done. One of the sweetest things I learned was that her mom, sister, and aunt helped style her entire wedding look. Her veil was especially meaningful because it was the veil her mom wore at her own wedding almost 30 years before.

Alaina had the veil altered in such a thoughtful way. She wore the fuller, vintage-inspired part for the rehearsal dinner. Then she wore the longer portion for the wedding day itself. For her something blue, she wore a family member’s ring.

Jacob also had meaningful details of his own. His wedding band was made from flooring connected to Michigan State University, where he and Alaina’s story began. They met at Rick’s near campus, so that detail felt personal without being obvious.

He also wore a broken Shinola watch and set the time to 5:30 p.m., the exact minute their ceremony began. It was such a romantic detail.

Their florals were designed by Stacy of Le Fleur Florals & Design, who is also a family friend. Both of their moms made cookies as wedding favors, with each mom making two different kinds. They also had custom napkins with their cats’ names and faces on them, which added such a fun personal touch to the reception.

The whole day felt relaxed because the timeline had room to breathe. There was space for portraits, family, quiet moments, and plenty of time with guests. If you want their sample timeline, you’ll find that in the next section.

By the reception, everyone was fully present. One of the most unforgettable moments was when Alaina got picked up and crowd surfed during the party. Their day felt elegant and sentimental. Exactly the kind of wedding day that feels beautiful in the moment and even more meaningful in the photographs years later.

Kind Words From Alaina & Jacob:

"Loved working with Alaina! We didn’t not have to give Alaina any direction to take the best photos possible. She selected the best spots, lighting, poses, etc to make us feel our best. We cannot wait to print the photos from our big day!!"

SAMPLE BOOK TOWER WEDDING TIMELINE

If you want to see how a real timeline can flow, Alaina and Jacob’s day worked beautifully because everything happened in one location, and there was enough space built in for the day to feel relaxed.

For couples planning a Book Tower wedding, I would always recommend building in extra breathing room.
