Yanni and Renna’s Detroit engagement photos at the Detroit Athletic Club were intentional from the beginning. Just two weeks prior to their session, Yanni proposed to Renna inside the DAC. He knew she would want that moment to feel private, so they returned afterward for portraits in a place that already held meaning for them.
That kind of consideration from Yanni says so much about him and their relationship. The DAC gave them a setting with history, elegance, beauty, and personal meaning, while still allowing the focus to stay on who they are together.
Between the grand staircase, their elegant wardrobe, a simple ring chosen with the help of family, and the comfort they shared together, this session felt like such a beautiful reflection of who they are.

The Detroit Athletic Club was such a natural choice for Yanni and Renna’s Detroit engagement photos. With Yanni being a member, the space already felt familiar and personal. But beyond the connection they had to the DAC, the setting itself gave their portraits so much depth.
The grand staircase, warm wood interiors, classic architecture, and elegance of the club created the perfect backdrop for engagement photos that were refined but not overly posed. It was beautiful and still centered completely on them.
A REFINED SESSION WITH PERSONAL DETAILS
Yanni and Renna’s wardrobe fit the Detroit Athletic Club beautifully. Yanni wore a tailored blue suit with vintage-inspired high-waisted trousers and a red patterned tie. Renna’s deep raspberry satin dress stood out against the warm wood and classic interiors at the club.
They both had such an intentional sense of style. Not in a way that felt over the top, but in a way that showed they appreciate beauty, presentation, and the experience of being photographed with care. That made photographing them feel very natural.
Their details carried meaning, too. Renna’s silver solitaire ring was simple, elegant, and chosen intentionally, with family playing a part in helping Yanni select it. Those are the kinds of details I am always drawn to. Not because they are loud, but because they last.
This was also their first professional session together, so I made sure they felt guided. As they got more comfortable, they even shared ideas of their own, including a few classic portraits near the table and chandelier.
Yanni was also excited to show me the DAC bowling alley, which was such a fun personal connection. I’ve been a bowler since I was four, so I loved that he was excited to show me that space.
I also made sure to leave extra headspace in some of their portraits for engagement announcements. It is a small detail, but it matters. Their gallery needed to feel beautiful, personal, and useful for this season of their lives.
